Shadows Over Sol: Second Edition is in development, being prepared for a Summer 2025 kickstarter. This is the second in a series of blog posts highlighting the upcoming game's features, as well as its various changes compared to the first edition.

Creating a character in Shadows Over Sol 2e is designed to be fast and straightforward, getting you to the gaming table in no time! The process consists of three simple steps: pick a geneline, choose a role and then add any finishing touches. This streamlined system ensures that characters are both balanced and ready to brave the horrors of the void.
Your geneline sets the foundation for who your character is in the world and defines her core aptitudes. This is reflected in her eight basic stats, as well as her Edge score. Some genelines provide better stats, while others off an advantage in the form of increased Edge. The latter can be used to give a boon to tests when your character needs it most, staving off the inevitable horror a bit longer.
All of the common genelines from the first edition are included.
After picking your geneline, you’ll choose a role to define your place on the team. Roles provide you with key skills, as well as a loadout of weapons, armor and gear, so that you can jump right into the action! Whether you’re a Drifter, Enforcer, Fixer, Operative, Roughneck, Scientist, Suit or Technician, each role comes with distinct strengths that make your character indispensable.
The last step is all about finalizing your character. First calculate a few scores, then select a contact or bonus skill and you’re ready to go! Optionally, you can also pick a weakness and subculture to add even more flavor to your character’s background.
With the default setup you can have a character ready to play in minutes! This is great for a quick one-shot, but to better support campaign play, Shadows Over Sol 2e also includes options that allow for more detailed character customization.
Campaign players can take advantage of full point-buy customization to tailor every detail. Furthermore, these characters are balanced with characters created using the quick method.
Shadows Over Sol 2e also provides game masters powerful tools to create custom genelines and roles, allowing you to make the dark future your own.
