A few days ago the open beta of Against the Dark Yogi officially started. This iteration of the beta is expected to last a couple months, then a second iteration will begin. You can check it out at the link above....
The private alpha test of Against the Dark Yogi will be coming to an end in the next week or two. This marks a turning point in the development of the game, as the first public beta is expected to launch shortly thereafter. Once the public beta has launched, the game (or at least certain parts of it) will become available for download on the Tab Creations website and for critique on the public beta forums. Anyone who has also contacted us in an interest in the game will receive an email about the release of the public beta as well....
Our one-shot theater-style LARP The Difficult Life of the Costumed Henchman was first released over two years ago, but we continue to refine it and make it better. With that in mind, we're here to announce that the game has just received another update and that update has been uploaded to the website! One of the new systems in Against the Dark Yogi is the karma system, which replaces the luck system found in other Saga Machine games. The idea of karma is a concept that is very common in Vedic spiritual thought, and one that should also be familiar to most of us here in the West....
A while back I went through the list of skills from first-generation Saga Machine games and put some thought into what skills are more useful or less useful than the others. Out of this search the Performance skill jumped out as one that seems lacking....
The first generation of Saga Machine games have a system of stances in the core combat module rules. The stance system is basically a stance that a character can take in combat that modifies her actions and other mechanical elements in some way....
So far in the Development Blog we've talked a lot about the next generation of Saga Machine games in general and the direction we're planning to take things. What we haven't done is talk a lot about the next game we're working on Against the Dark Yogi. There's a reason for this. Although the game has been in development for some months, there hadn't yet been a playtest, and things were still in many ways up in the air....
